Are you bummed about the lack of track days so far this season? Not getting the track time you hoped for, finding yourself cutting tight apexes in your daily driver in the roundabouts outside the grocery store? Lamenting how all the hand sanitizer is breaking down the leather in your steering wheel and reducing your hand grip in the corners? Yeah, you’re not alone. So many things are a bummer right now (or just straight-up disaster). Obviously I’m not saying being able to expend rubber for amusement is the most important problem facing our society right now… but not having your emotional outlet and time with your social community is tough on anyone no matter what they are dealing with.

The frowny-face vibe is even stronger with the people who organize your races and track events. They aren’t just missing the fun and the faces – many of them are also missing a job. It might be years before this industry recovers to 2019 levels, meaning years before all the people that had jobs in racing have jobs again. Some local clubs and tracks might never re-open at all if they were on thin financial ice beforehand.

Even our national organizations are worried about their future, especially if their funding primarily came from event registrations. That’s why – if you are able – you should renew your local and national memberships this season even if you know you won’t be racing much or at all. Membership dues are the only thing keeping those people employed and keeping those racing organizations from folding. If everyone who loves racing and cares about racing buys a membership in 2020 – even if they won’t be able to use it one single time – we will still have races to join in 2021.
