SEMA Builds: Hybrid Powerplants

In the biology world, “hybrid” means the offspring of two different species – a blend of two parents that wouldn’t have normally been crossed. That’s exactly what’s going on here – a happy little Honda hatchback has been cross-bred with a roaring 800cc Honda VFR motorcycle.

While it looks like the VFR’s engine and fuel tank have just been stuffed under the hood like cargo, that’s actually the car’s new heart. They haven’t just been grafted together and sent on their merry way, either. In addition to the beastly 800cc V4 engine with its 12,000 RPM redline, this N600 is now a proper sports car with rear-wheel-drive, a modified Mazda Miata suspension system, seats from a Polaris RZR®, and modified front and rear bumpers from a 1967-68 Chevy® Camaro. So it’s like a well-bred fruit, a hybrid of seeds from different trees bred for crispness, flavor, color, and hardiness.

This 1972 Honda N600 is owned by Stephen Mines and won the Honda Super Tuner Legends Series, part of the Hot Wheels™ Legends Tour.

The best part about it is that it looks like the builders had a lot of fun creating it, almost as much fun as they had test driving it.
